The difference between high purity graphite rods and impregnated graphite rods

High-purity graphite rods are made of high-density, high-strength, and high-purity graphite. They are a little more wear-resistant than ordinary graphite, but they are also relatively wear-resistant. Some graphite products need to be on rotating equipment, so this needs to be super wear-resistant. Because high-purity graphite will produce dust during repeated rotation and friction, the high-purity graphite product itself is not very wear-resistant. Super wear-resistant graphite products can use impregnated graphite. Impregnated graphite can be impregnated with different substances according to the different stone requirements of the product. Common ones include resin-impregnated graphite, antimony-impregnated graphite, copper-impregnated graphite, etc. Impregnated graphite is very wear-resistant, such as epoxy resin impregnated graphite, which has the characteristics of wear resistance and lubrication.

Resin-impregnated graphite rods are not only wear-resistant but also have increased lubrication properties. Resin-impregnated graphite round rods can be processed into many lubricating and wear-resistant graphite products. The processed graphite products are very smooth. If polished, they can achieve a mirror effect.

At present, most of the graphite used in inorganic oil self-lubricating bearings is carbon arc gouging carbon rods. In fact, the lubrication performance of carbon arc gouging carbon rods is very poor, but it should be because it is made of graphite. Graphite itself is a solid lubricant, but not all graphite is lubricated. Graphite lubrication depends on its scale size. The larger the scale size, the better the lubrication effect. It should be lubricated, so oil-free bearings and self-lubricating copper guide bushing products are wear-resistant.

Carbon arc gouging carbon rods are mainly used to assist in shipbuilding. Its function is to melt and blow away the bad parts of the weld and to create bevels. For example, after welding a weld, if there are defects or quality problems, a carbon rod is used to melt and blow the iron. Why is it melt blowing? This generates high temperatures to melt the iron and blows the molten iron away with compressed air. Shipyards are mainly used to repair welds. The model specifications are all 355 mm in length, and the diameter is generally between 0.15–0.2. Because there is a layer of metal on the surface, everything is produced with a minus tolerance. A layer of the carbon arc gouging the carbon rod can be removed simply by touching it. Since the carbon arc gouging carbon rod is extruded, its air tightness is very high, and the particle size is very fine, so the layers will fall off one by one.

It is easy to know the real lubricating graphite rod. Its specifications are very standard, 3 mm is 3 mm, and the tolerance is the same as our standard parts, usually around 0.02. Because it is machine-processed, not extruded, the appearance is very smooth, and dust will not fall off when you look at it. It is also very easy to use. Everyone who makes mechanical hardware knows that the drill we drill is generally about 0.2 smaller than the standard hole. The carbon arc gouging carbon rod meets the standard specifications in order to polish the metal on the surface, so there is a negative tolerance. For example, a 6.8 graphite rod can be placed in a 6.8 hole. Although it can be put in, the carbon arc gouging carbon rod is soft and can easily become smaller due to friction, making it very loose. This is a problem that many manufacturers of self-lubricating bearings and guide bushings without oil have encountered.
